Fast Food in the Cafeteria Essay Many people think that fast food is bad for our health and that it shouldn’t be allowed in school. More healthful options should be promoted but what’s the use of healthy food in school if the kids don’t want to eat it? Nobody least of all adults LIKE eating healthy if given a choice everyone always goes for the fast food. When we eat lunch at school we get the bad end of the stick. they feed us cardboard pizza, meat that isn’t even meat and has been washed in ammonia to kill bacteria, we get fries that aren’t fries, slimy ravioli, and lunch that generally looks unappetizing and tastes little better than that. the dilemma is should schools offer fast food such as KFC, Taco Bell or McDonalds? I say yes. Based on 2009 US Industry report, there were 303,989 fast food locations in the US alone. â€Å"Fast food was the main food source for up to 38% of children† stated researcher Shanthy Bowman, PhD, with the U. S. Department of Agriculture in Beltsville, Maryland. She also demonstrated that when kids eat fast food, they eat more food all day long and over one year time period, a child can pack on 6 extra pounds because of high fast food eating. The result of overeating is a nation that is becoming obese and overweight. The result of obesity? More illness and soaring healthcare problems. When we say fast food, we are thinking junk food yum (insert drool here). Fast food has become one and the same from hamburgers to pizzas, to French fries, hot dogs and more. Fast food has high calories, fats, saturated fats, sugar and salt content. The fats, sugar, and salt in fast food draw us kids like a magnet and because fast food doesnt contain much fiber we dont feel full afterward so we tend to eat more later on. Compared with kids didnt eat fast food, fast food eaters ate an average of 187 more calories a day. At that rate, â€Å"the child would gain 6 extra pounds each year, if they didnt get enough exercise to burn it off†, wrote PhD Bowman. At the same time, fast food causes a number of health problems in children. The excess of sugar in fast food and sodas lead to diabetes in children; their bodies failing to produce the insulin that controls the sugar levels and metabolism. Fats and saturated fats lead to high levels of cholesterol in the blood, Cholesterol leads to various heart problems, These heart problems increase the risk of major heart diseases such as Coronary Heart Disease. Also the lack of vitamins can make the children become anemic, lethargic and get tired very easily. Deficiency in calcium makes their teeth, nails and bones weak. Many times the added preservatives and coloring agents used in fast food can cause cancer in children. The most common and the core cause of all the diseases in children, is obesity due to fast food. Obese children spend little time doing physical activities or sports, and this lack of activity leads to a sedentary lifestyle, which further on leads to mental stress and other emotional disturbances. According to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention website, results from 2007-2008 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey showed that 17 percent of children and teenagers ages 2-19 years are obese. That means one in 6 children is obese. Are you tired of eating nasty, dried, greasy, overcooked, overpriced cafeteria food? I know I am. Its time to make a change. It would be a good idea for a fast food chain to consider opening their newest location in schools because doing so would help students and increase money for the school. â€Å"As they try to keep pace with student taste, lunchrooms across the country have given up meatloaf and mashed potatoes for brand-name fast-food items. † (source B) Bringing in a fast food restaurant as a matter of fact would be good because it would help students. Students would stop skipping lunch a start eating in the cafeteria, Eating lunch is better than not eating. Studies show how test scores improve when students eat. When students like lunch, they’ll eat it! They won’t be tempted to throw it out or give it to another student. In addition to helping students, a fast food restaurant in the cafeteria would benefit the school because first of all, the restaurant would give a percentage of its profits to the school and secondly the restaurant might even participate in the Adopt-a-School program. With more students buying lunch, profits would increase, and if other students hear that that school has fast food in the cafeteria they might be attracted to the school because of the restaurant, increasing profits even more. All this extra money could be used for supplies, computers, or books, all of which would make our educational experience at school much better than it is now. Helping students and schools is something that everyone enjoys doing. Putting a fast food restaurant in place of cafeteria food would do both. Hopefully if we got this restaurant no one would ever think of the food as being nasty, greasy, overcooked or overpriced, everyone would be happy. Cafeterias are a vital part of a students high school career. It is a place of social interactions and various degrees of shenanigans, whether it is over breakfast, lunch, or walking to classes with friends. Cafeterias are not just for keeping societys niches alive, however, as school cafeterias are also used to provide a form of food for the general student body. Cafeteria food has been a theme of debate for years and will remain to be so for years to come. From the bagged-lunch versus the school-prepared dilemma, to the question of what exactly is in the meat-like substances cafeteria food has an air of mystery and intrigue. While there are admittedly many reasons not to consume the cafeteria food, it has a few redeeming qualities about it. Food provided through the public education system can sometimes have a less-than-savory flavoring when first chewed over, but soon becomes edible when the taste is acquired. Cafeteria food may be tasteless and inedible at times, but remember: what doesnt kill you, makes you stronger. After four years of consuming the bland entrees, students graduate high school with brand-new taste buds and an aversion to all things flavorful and delicious. If variety is the spice of life, cafeteria food is as spicy as a Flamenco dancer. One never knows what he or she will receive on Wednesdays- pizza, hotdogs, or a creative combination of the two. Not only is the student unsure of exactly where the chicken patties come from, or what they are really made of, but the school lunches provide an array of fruit and salad. Most students have no choice in what they eat for lunch they eat it because they are hungry and have no other option. fast food in the cafeteria though would change that. Students could eat what they liked and even if they paid for it the funds would go to the school and the school could use that money to buy things for the students that would enhance our learning experience. every student would go to lunch and actually eat the food even if they had to pay for it because it’s something they like to eat, not tasteless junk. So overall putting fast food in the cafeteria is a good thing but also a bad thing. It’s a debate that would probably go on forever but nobody would win. decide whether to put it in the cafeteria or not. either way it makes no difference except to our taste buds. Biography of Isaac Newton :: Sir Isaac Newton Essays

Through his early life experiences and with the knowledge left by his predecessors, Sir Isaac Newton was able to develop calculus, natural forces, and optics. From birth to early childhood, Isaac Newton overcame many personal, social, and mental hardships. It is through these experiences that helped create the person society knows him as in this day and age. The beginning of these obstacles started at birth for Newton. Isaac was born premature on Christmas Day 1642, in the manor house of Woolsthorpe, 7 miles south of Grantham in Lincolnshire. It is said that â€Å"Because Galileo, . . . had died that year, a significance attaches itself to 1642†(Westfall 1). Though his father had died before Isaac was born, he was given his father’s name. He was born into a farming family that had worked their way slowly up the â€Å"social ladder†. The Newton’s were one of the few families to prosper in Lincolnshire(Westfall 1). At the age of three Isaac’s life would take a drastic turn. When Isaac was three his mother, Hannah Ayscough, remarried to the Reverend Barnabas Smith(Internet-newtonia). Isaac and the Reverend never got along and the Reverend would not have a child that was not his living with him. Isaac stayed with his grandparents when his mother went to live with the Reverend in North Witham. His maternal grandmother raised Isaac until he was ten. It is believed that his mother’s second marriage and her leaving caused many problems for Isaac as a child. While living with his grandparents he attended day school nearby in Skillington and Stoke. Many cousins and other family members in the area surrounded Isaac though, â€Å"He formed no bond with any of his numerous relatives that can be traced later in his life†(Westfall 11). In 1653 his mother returned after her second husband died. With her she brought one half brother and two half sisters. Although it is not known, bitterness may have inflicted Isaac when his three new siblings arrived. Never the less, two years later at the age of twelve he was sent to Grantham to attend grammar school. While attending grammar school Isaac lived with the apothecary Mr. Clark(Westfall 12). Mr. Clark had three stepchildren from the first marriage of his wife, Miss Storer, who were also living in his house. In school and at home Isaac was apparently different and did not get along with any other boys.

Rhode Island Cause and Effect of the American Revolution The American Revolution was caused by events that affected both the patriots of America and the loyalists of Britain.Before the American Revolution led to the independence of the 13 colonies of America in the latter half of the 18th century, small upheavals in individual states were seen throughout the country. Among these were the French and Indian War. This war spanned nine years, but it was known in England as the Seven Years War. It was a clear picture of how the Frenchmen and the Englishmen both wanted supreme power over the lands of America and wanted to become masters of the trade that each represented.France lost the war, and England imposed the Stamp Act on all written documents in America to be able to pay debts incurred during the war. They put taxes on virtually everything, including paper, tea, glass and paint. These tax issues then led to the American Revolution ten years later. After the Declaration of Independence, the 13 colonies were formed what is now known as the United States of America. The 13 colonies were divided into three: New England colonies, middle colonies and southern colonies. These tates had ultimately determined that the British rule would never again gain their allegiance, thus severing any ties to the English crown. The United States of America won/drew the Revolutionary War with the help of France, Spain, Dutch Republic and the British (Yes the British also helped the US). Americas 1st Army was set up during the Revolutionary War, it was set up trained and led by British troops who had turned on their own country. Also the Revolutionary War â€Å"Officially ended† with the signing of the Treaty of Paris.British people held mass protests in Britain and demanded their King sign the Treaty Of Paris end the War and Bring their troops back home and give America back their independence, the King signed it and officially ended the war. Many Historians worldwide have different opinions on if the Revolutionary War was a win or a draw because of the British King officially ending the war by signing the treaty and the fact that the War was technically Brits VS Brits anyway.Also the British were fighting 3 other more important Wars in other parts of the world at the same time as the Revolutionary War, even though they were outnumbered in all 4 Wars they still went on to win those 3 other Wars, the Revolutionary War was the least important as America was a young country with not much for the British Empire to gain, the 3 other wars they were fighting in other parts of the world had a lot to lose and a l ot to gain, the troops that were fighting in America were needed elsewhere. Revolutionary War There were several reasons that enabled the Americans to win the Revolutionary War.The main reasons are the alliance with France and the Guerrilla Warfare of Marion's Brigade and the attack of British supply bases. The alliance with the France supplied the colonists with weapons, fleets and soldiers greatly. The Patriots' soldiers were low- experienced and the Continental Navy were newborn army who didn't have enough fleets to defend themselves (The British ships were massive and large in numbers). Only with the support of the French, were able to put up a fight against Britain. Marion's Brigade were a group of Patriots who used the Guerrilla Warfare strategy to fight against the British.The Guerrilla Warfare is still currently used in wars and it is a series of swift, hit & run attacks. In the Naval War, the Patriots, rather than attacking the main forces of the British ships, attacked the supply ships and bases in the Bahamas. That caused the British navy to suffer greatly and delay their attacks. These are the main reasons why and how the colonists of the American Revolutionary War were able to win the war. Motivation Patriots fought for their lives, their property, and their political ideals. Popular Support Many civilians actively supported the Revolution.Patriots used many techniques to rally popular support. Leadership Rebellion broke out across the continent. American generals learned from their mistakes. Washington inspired loyalty and patriotism in his troops. Foreign allies France supplied money and troops. France and Spain weakened British forces by expanding the war. The Dutch helped carry French military supplies to the Americans with communication and supplies. Americans fought close to home; the militia made sure that the British could not live off the land. Troop strength, although Americans had fewer troops, Local militia helped swell American forces .Altogether, 250,000 may have fought for the Patriot cause. Choosing A Career For Medicine - 778 Words

On an unusually hot August afternoon in Karachi, I, along with other students and our attending, had been examining patients in the outpatient department, when a female, in her mid-20s, walked in. She appeared fatigued and had recurring diarrhea with weight loss. After obtaining a detailed history and not reaching a conclusion an extensive work up was ordered. The following day the results were perplexing. Apart from anemia, there was nothing abnormal. Over the course of the next few days more investigations were performed that proved inconclusive. We even ruled out abdominal tuberculosis. As a last resort the doctor ordered an endoscopy with biopsy. The results showed classic atrophic villi, therefore a diagnosis of celiac disease was made, although tissue transglutaminase had come out negative earlier in the course of diagnosis. Later on she was also diagnosed with IgA deficiency too, hence the negative Transglutaminase test. Through all this, what fascinated me was how doctors got to connect one clue to another in reaching a diagnosis. Choosing a career in medicine came naturally to me since my father is an anesthesiologist. With my frequent visits to his hospital, I have always been surrounded with doctors. I have witnessed first hand the satisfaction a doctor experiences seeing their patient on the path to recovery.
